Introduction

Isn't Satanism only reversed Christianity?
On the contrary to what many believe, Satanism is not a reversed doctrine of the teachings and worship of Christianity. True, our ideology makes a harsh contrast to all other established religions, but that doesn't mean that we acknowledge THEIR thesis of what's true, right and wrong, good and evil, hate and love, black or white. Our ideology is simply something that stands apart from, for example, the ideology known as Christianity.

Could one call you religious?
Is Satanism a religion? Both yes and no, depending on how you define religion. It was once said that "to religion only the holy is true, to philosophy only the true is holy!". Religion, in it's correct linguistic sentence, names it the science of the ultimate questions in life. But as the "spiritual" leaders have gone off track, religion has become the science of the invisible or of faith. Satanism is rooted in life here and now, on this Earth and in this lifetime. Firmly tied to the "material" - the realistic, reason, knowing and what we grasp abstractly. It's the opposite to "normal" faith, which usually strives towards the fulfillment of a dream, to arrive at a better place after death, or even cease to exist (nirvana).

Why not just live? Or what do you believe in?
One can say that Satanism is the affirmation of life; of its Darwinian urges and instincts. Put easily, that's it. But in spite of this, the "liberated" human still feels a need of something more. A way to structure her thoughts, being able to grasp the bigger picture, or simply something to "hold on to" - usually fundamental and correct dogmas. Another danger with human's desire to "just live" is the sick guilt and behavior legacy, which often can be found buried deep in our subconscious! Ask someone to spontaneously say what they associate manipulation with. Positive or negative? Most answer negative. Despite of that, basically all contact with one's surroundings is manipulative (or life affirming). And that's good, otherwise we'd surely fade away. We need to focus correctly - i.e. believe in ourselves and in life, and in psychological and emotional channeling. While many other popular ideologies or the pure atheist way of thinking (non-faith) only satisfies the intellect, Satanism (according to us) satisfies all the inner needs of the individual.

Do you believe in a God or something god-like?
We stare reality straight in it's eyes! There's no reward for the enslaved in the afterlife. Nor is there a Hell where "the sinners" will burn. We acknowledge our faults and shortcomings, but we don't pray to someone or something who's existence can only be "proven" when you believe in it for forgiveness. Instead we strive to improve - to reach our own paradise, in our own mind! All humans are potential gods, and it's only you who can decide what's right or wrong for you. You have the prerequisites - make what YOU want of life! The other way; Buddhism, Christianity and related ideologies, such as Hinduism et cetera, argues that the individual shall surrender her own self, and through this be reborn or become one with "the maker" et cetera, after death. The Satanist insists on that we're separated from all traditional gods and makers. With this line of thought we're able to allow ourselves to be the supreme one and in control of our own lives. To fulfill ourselves, our dreams and our "egoistic" goals, so that we might be an asset to that / those we choose to care about.

I've heard priests say you worship the Devil!
Satanism doesn't include the use of prayer, but instead a "celebration" of the Prince of Darkness! At a glance this may seem like it's stolen from some low-budget horror movie - but the metaphor doesn't acknowledge the Christian Devil. In the Semitic tradition and later on in the Western one, the symbol of the people's sin was a "scapegoat". This scapegoat was sacrificed once a year to limit the wrath of God, brought upon the people because of their sin (the urge - affirmation of life). The goat eventually evolved into to representing Satan - the affirmation of life personified. You could say that Satan(ism) is a sort of archetype for the own self. Satanism sees acknowledges the human for what she really is, with all her natural urges, and from that point of view: both as "good" and "evil".

Do you live your lives strictly according to the Satanic Bible?
The way we see it, the Satanic Bible was written as source of inspiration and a gateway so the reader could be able to recognize himself within modern Satanic thoughts. Not as a book consisting of strict rules! To slavishly follow this book (or anything else for that matter) is to do the very opposite of what the book speaks of. However, we definitely recommend people interested in modern Satanic thinking to read it.

Why do you call yourselves "Satan"ists?
One can ask why anyone would even choose to call themselves something that has such a negative ring to it. One way to explain it, though rather bluntly, is that identification is achieved by referring to oneself as something that others can relate to - humans are, after all, social animals. But actually; we ourselves haven't chosen to call ourselves Satanists, it's a name given to us by history. Had we lived according to other frames of reference or during a different era in time, then surely "Satan"ism would be called something completely different. But honestly, for us who refer to ourselves as Satanists, the name in itself isn't what's important, but rather what it actually stands for.

Different point of views and traditional beliefs

In the same way as one can use many different names for the same thing, one can also turn it the other way around and use the same name for different things. The Christian church has tried to picture Satanism as the most gruesome thing that exists. The purpose of this propaganda should be obvious for anyone. By scaring the general public with vivid images of Satan as a fire breathing beast, of Hell and tales of non-Christians alleged blood-drenched ceremonies, the Christian church faced no difficulties making the public keep their commonplace faith. Only a couple of hundred years ago, who would dare not to baptize their children in church? Everybody "knew" back then what happened once in a while with non-baptized children...

One should also be aware of the fact that every individual thinks differently and interprets things differently! The ones today who actually worships "Satan" is usually called "Devil Worshippers".
